How to play Color Echo

The squares light one at a time. When the sequence finishes, press the same squares in the same order. Get it right and one more color is added, chosen at random. The same color can appear twice in a row. The first wrong press ends the run. Your score is how many colors you repeated. Longer is better. The first sequence is a single color.

The squares

  • Green with a circle, top left.
  • Amber with a diamond, top right.
  • Blue with a square, bottom left.
  • Rose with a triangle, bottom right.

Each square has its own tone. The shape stays visible, so the squares can be told apart by mark as well as color.

Pace

Slow, Steady, and Brisk set how long each color stays lit. The lights shorten a little as the sequence grows, down to a limit for the pace you chose. Changing the pace during a run ends it. Press Start when you are ready to watch again.

Sound

Tones can be turned off. The colors and shapes play the same way either way.

Score

Score is the length you have repeated in this run. Best updates as soon as you pass your longest length, and it stays even if you then press New game. Last is the score from the previous run that ended on a mistake.

Using this game

Press Start and watch. Then press the squares, or use Q, W, A, and S, or the keys 1, 2, 3, and 4. New game ends the run and waits. If you leave this tab while the colors are playing, they pause, and the same sequence plays from the start when you come back. Your turn waits if you leave while it is yours. Your best length stays on this device.

Tips

  • Say the colors quietly as they play, or follow the shapes.
  • A repeat is easy to miss. Wait for the square to go dim, then light again.
  • Slow leaves more time between colors. Brisk is the same game, played faster.
  • The tone matches the square. If you are unsure which one just played, the sound is a second copy of the color.

Playing on a phone or tablet

Tap the squares in order after the sequence finishes. Start, New game, pace, and sound stay above the board.

Frequently asked questions

What does the score mean?
It is the number of colors you repeated without a mistake. Repeating a sequence of 8 scores 8.
Can the same color play twice in a row?
Yes. It dims, then lights again. That gap is the repeat.
Does the game ever end on its own?
No. The sequence grows until a press is out of order. There is no final level.
Where is my best length kept?
