Pig
Pig is a quiet race to 100. Roll one die and add it to your turn, or hold and bank what you have. Roll a 1 and the turn is lost. Alden plays the same way, and holds once his turn is high enough.

Rules and help
How to play Pig
Race Alden to 100. On your turn, roll one die as many times as you like. Each roll from 2 to 6 adds to your turn total. Hold to add that total to your score. Roll a 1 and the turn total is lost; Alden then plays. You go first.
Your turn
- Roll — throw the die. A 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 is added to this turn.
- Hold — bank this turn onto your score. You need a turn total above zero to hold. Alden plays next.
- A 1 — this turn scores nothing. Points you have already banked stay where they are.
Alden
Alden uses the same rules. He keeps rolling until the turn reaches his limit, then he holds. He holds earlier when banking would reach 100.
- Timid holds at 12.
- Steady holds at 20. This is the usual way to play.
- Bold holds at 28.
Winning
The first side to bank 100 or more wins, at the moment those points are held. A turn that would pass 100 still has to be held. Rolling a 1 first loses the turn, even when the total was already enough.
Using this game
Press Roll and Hold. With a keyboard, the space bar rolls and H holds, unless a button or the menu has focus. Change how Alden plays before you start, or during a game if you are willing to start over. Your win count stays on this device.
Tips
- When you are far behind, longer turns are often right; when ahead, bank sooner.
- If the turn total already reaches 100 with a hold, stop—extra rolls only risk a bust.
- Watch Alden’s hold threshold; Timid gives you more turns, Bold punishes hesitation.
- A single 1 resets only the current turn, not your banked score—do not panic-roll after a bust.
Playing on a phone or tablet
Tap Roll and Hold. Both buttons stay in place for the whole game. Alden takes his turn on his own.
Frequently asked questions
- What is Pig?
- A folk dice game. You roll one die, build a turn, and hold before you throw a 1. First to 100 wins.
- Does Alden play fairly?
- Yes. He rolls one die and holds at a fixed total — 12, 20, or 28 — or sooner if that reaches 100.
- Why does a 1 leave my score alone?
- Only the current turn is at risk. Holding moves those points onto your score, where a later 1 cannot take them.
- Where is my win count kept?
- In this browser, on this device. Clearing site data for Play Solo removes it. Nothing is sent to a server.
- Does a 1 erase my whole score?
- No. Only the points gathered on that turn disappear. Banked points stay.
