How to play Recall

Press Start. A handful of shapes is shown, then hidden. The next set has changed in one way. Either one shape was not in the handful, or one shape from the handful is missing. Pick that shape. A correct pick starts another handful. The first mistake ends the run.

The handful

The first handful is four shapes. After every two correct answers it grows by one, up to six. Each shape is used at most once. When the shapes return, they are in a new order, so it is the set that matters, not the places.

The new shape

The board shows the handful plus one shape that was not there. Tap that shape. The lower row stays empty for this question.

The missing shape

The board shows the handful with one shape removed. The missing shape sits in the lower row, beside shapes that were not in the handful. Tap the one that left.

Look

Brief, Steady, and Unhurried set how long the handful stays up. A larger handful is shown for a little less time. The shapes are then hidden for a short moment. Changing the look during a run ends it. Press Start when you are ready to look again.

Question

Either asks for the new shape or the missing shape, and it will not ask the same one three times in a row. New one and Missing each stick to a single question. Changing this during a run ends it.

Streak

The streak is how many questions you have answered in this run. Best updates as soon as you pass your longest streak, and it stays even if you then press New game. Last is the streak from the previous run that ended on a mistake.

The shapes

• Disc, a green circle.
• Tile, a blue square.
• Peak, a rose triangle.
• Gem, an amber diamond.
• Ring, a teal ring.
• Arch, a brown arch.
• Plus, an olive plus.
• Bar, a slate bar.

Using this game

Press Start and look. Then tap the shape, or press the number shown on it. Numbers run across the board for a new shape, and across the lower row when a shape is missing. New game ends the run and waits. If you leave this tab while the shapes are up, or while they are hidden, they pause, and the same handful is shown again when you come back. A question that is already waiting stays as it is. After a correct answer, leaving the tab brings the next handful when you return. Your best streak stays on this device.

Tips

• Name the shapes quietly while they are up. Disc, peak, ring is easier to keep than three pictures.
• The order changes. Remember the set, not the row.
• If the lower row is still empty, one shape on the board is new. If the lower row has shapes in it, one of them left the handful.
• Unhurried gives you longer to look. The question itself does not change.

Tap the new shape on the board, or the missing shape in the lower row. Start, New game, look, and question stay above the table.

Frequently asked questions

How many shapes are shown?

Four at the start. The handful grows to five after two correct answers, and to six after four. It stays at six until a mistake.

Can the same shape appear twice?

No. Each shape is used once in a set. A new shape, and the extras beside a missing shape, are chosen from the shapes that were not shown.

What happens if I leave during a look?

The handful pauses and is shown again when you come back. A question that is already on the table waits. Nothing is scored until you answer.

Where is my best streak kept?

In this browser, on this device. Clearing site data for Play Solo removes it. Nothing is sent to a server.
