Crosswalk

Alden waits on the near curb. Lanes of traffic run between that curb, a middle strip, and the far curb. Hop one square at a time, wait in the gaps, and reach the gold line. Each crossing sends you back for another, a little faster.

How to play Crosswalk

Hop Alden from the near curb to the far curb. Cars, vans, and cycles move along the lanes and do not change lanes. The near curb, the middle strip, and the far curb are safe. A vehicle that overlaps him costs a life and the run ends when the last life is gone.

Controls

  • Hop: Arrow keys, or W, A, S, and D. Each press hops one square. Holding a key does not keep hopping. On a touch screen, use the buttons under the board, or swipe across it.
  • Start: Press Start, or hop. Traffic is already moving while the board says Ready. The first hop starts the run.
  • Pause: Space, P, or Pause. Switching away from this tab also pauses. Traffic and Alden both wait. Resume continues the same lanes.

Scoring and speed

Reaching the far curb, the one with the gold line, scores 1. Alden stays there for a moment, then returns to the near curb for the next crossing. Relaxed, Classic, and Quick set how fast the lanes start. After every crossing the lanes run a little faster, up to a limit for the pace you chose. Changing speed starts a new run. Your best score stays on this device.

A hit

You are hit if you hop onto a vehicle, or if a vehicle reaches the square you are standing on. The edges of his shoulders and head are what count. A hit costs one life and, if you have a life left, sends you back to the near curb. Lives do not come back during a run. You start with three. You cannot hop off the board.

Tips

  • Wait on the middle strip. Nothing drives there, so you can read the upper lanes before you leave it.
  • A van covers more of its lane than a cycle. Let the longer vehicles pass.
  • Alden faces the way of your last hop. From above you see his glasses on the front of his head.
  • Lanes next to each other run in opposite directions, and not all at the same speed.
  • Relaxed starts slower if you want more time on the first crossings.

Frequently asked questions

Which rows are safe?
The near curb, the middle strip, and the far curb. Vehicles stay in the eight lanes between those rows. Standing still on a curb or on the middle strip is always safe.
What happens at the far curb?
You score one point. After a short pause Alden returns to the near curb and the traffic is a little faster. The run continues until you run out of lives.
What counts as being hit?
A vehicle that overlaps Alden, whether you hop into it or it reaches his square. You lose one life and he goes back to the near curb. The third hit ends the run.
