How to play Drop Dead
Start with five dice. Roll them. If none show a 2 or a 5, add every face to your score and roll the same dice again. If any die shows a 2 or a 5, that roll scores nothing, and each of those dice drops out. Roll the dice that remain. The game ends when the last die drops out. The score is then final. A higher score is better.
The roll
- A clean roll has no 2 and no 5. Faces of 1, 3, 4, and 6 all count.
- A 2 or a 5 never scores. That die is out for the rest of the game.
- Dice that show 1, 3, 4, or 6 stay in play, even when other dice drop on the same roll.
Scoring
Each clean roll is added to the score. A roll that drops any die adds zero, including the faces that were not a 2 or a 5. There is no target to reach. You simply roll until none of the dice are left.
Using this game
Press Roll. With a keyboard, the space bar or Enter rolls, unless a button, link, or field has focus. New game starts over, and asks first if a game is already underway. The dice, the score, and the rolls so far stay in this browser, so a reload continues the game. Your best score and your average stay on this device.
Tips
- There is nothing to hold or stop — every clean roll is banked automatically, so the only “skill” is reading how many dice remain.
- A lone survivor can still pad the score: each clean 1, 3, 4, or 6 adds that face before the next risk.
- A first-roll wipe (all five show 2/5 mixes) ends at zero; start another game and treat big openers as variance, not a mistake.
- Watch greyed dice on the table so you always know how many are still in play before you tap Roll.
Playing on a phone or tablet
Tap Roll. The button stays in place for the whole game. Dice that drop remain on the table, greyed and lowered, so you can see which faces went out.
Frequently asked questions
- What is Drop Dead?
- A folk dice game for one player. Roll five dice, add each roll that has no 2 or 5, and set those dice aside when they appear. The score is final when every die is gone.
- If one die shows a 2, do the others still score?
- No. The whole roll scores nothing. The 2s and 5s drop out. Dice showing 1, 3, 4, or 6 stay in play and are rolled again.
- What is a good score?
- Scores vary a lot; your best on this device is shown in the HUD. Higher is better, and there is no total you have to reach.
- Where is my best score kept?
- Best and average stay in this browser on this device after a finished game. Clearing site data for Play Solo removes them. Nothing is sent to a server.
- Can I stop and keep my score early?
- No. Clean rolls always add, and you continue until every die has dropped out.
