Rules and help

A common English word appears with its letters mixed. Spell one that uses each letter once before the clock runs out.

How to play

• Length. Choose four, five, six, or seven letters. Those lengths get 30, 45, 60, and 75 seconds. The clock starts with the word and keeps running if you leave the tab.
• Build. Tap a letter or type it. Tap a placed letter to send it back. Backspace removes the last one.
• Check. With every letter placed, Check or Enter tests the spelling. Any listed word from these letters counts. A miss stays on the board, and the clock keeps going.
• Shuffle and Clear. Shuffle reorders the letters still waiting. Clear sends them all back. Neither adds time.
• Streak. Each correct word adds one. Time running out, Give up, or a new length on an unfinished word returns the streak to zero. The fastest time for each length stays on this device.
• Give up. It shows the word that was dealt. Next word deals another.

Tips

• Look for an ending you know, such as -ing, -ed, or a silent e, and set those letters aside.
• Put a vowel in the middle and see what the consonants can do around it.
• A miss does not clear the row. Move one letter, or press Clear, and try another order.
• Give up shows the dealt word and ends the streak.

Tap a scrambled letter to move it into the word, and tap a placed letter to send it back. You can also type. The letter rows stay the same height.

Any word on the list that uses each of these letters once is accepted. Give up shows the word that was dealt, which may be one of several.

How long is the clock?

Four letters get 30 seconds, five get 45, six get 60, and seven get 75. It starts when the word appears. Leaving the tab does not pause it.

Where is my streak kept?

In this browser, on this device, along with the fastest time for each length. Clearing site data for Play Solo removes it. Nothing is sent to a server.
