Finding the words

Word Search hides a list of words in a square of letters. A word runs in a straight line and may share a letter with another word. Press the first or last letter and drag to the other end, or tap one end and then the other. The highlight snaps to a straight direction. A miss clears with no penalty. Nothing is timed.

The theme page tells you which directions that set uses. Some lists run forwards only. Others also hide words backwards or on a diagonal. The rules on that page name the directions, so you do not have to guess.

Themes

The main page picks a theme and a grid. Themed puzzles each have their own address: holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, and Thanksgiving; spring, summer, autumn, and winter; animals, dogs, and the ocean; dinosaurs and an easier grid for new readers; space; food; and sports words with no league names. New puzzle, Previous, and Next stay on the theme page, and each grid keeps its own progress in this browser.

Printing a theme page prints the grid and the full word list, and leaves the site header off the page. The lists are ordinary English words. They do not use brand names.

Unscrambling

Anagram deals a common English word with the letters out of order. Put them back before the clock runs out. Four letters get 30 seconds, five get 45, six get 60, and seven get 75. Tap a letter or type it. Any listed word that uses each of those letters once is enough, so a second spelling counts. The streak, and the fastest time for each length, stay on this device. Leaving the tab does not stop the clock.

Typing

Typing shows a passage from a book in the public domain, with the author and the book named under it. You type what you see. The score is your time, the words a minute, and how many characters were wrong. That score stays on this device.
