Rules and help

A common English word is hidden. Name letters until you fill it in, or until six wrong guesses complete the figure.

How to play

• Length. Short words have four or five letters, medium words six to eight, and long words nine to twelve. That choice stays on this device. Changing it during a word ends the word and clears the streak.
• Guess. Tap a letter or type it. A letter in the word fills every place it appears. A missing letter adds the next part of the figure. A letter you already tried changes nothing.
• The figure. The gallows is already drawn and does not count. Wrong guesses add the head, the body, the left arm, the right arm, the left leg, and the right leg. The sixth loses and shows the word. Letters you had not named are marked.
• Streak. Each solved word adds one. The total stays on this device. A loss, Give up, or a new length on an unfinished word clears the streak.
• Give up. It shows the word. New word deals another of the same length.

Tips

• Start with a vowel. Most of these words use at least one.
• A repeated letter still costs one guess, and it fills every place.
• Look at the number of blanks before you spend a rare letter such as Q or Z.
• Give up shows the word and ends the streak.

How many wrong guesses do I get?

Six. The gallows is already drawn and does not count. Wrong guesses add the head, the body, the left arm, the right arm, the left leg, and the right leg. The sixth shows the word.

What if a letter appears more than once?

One guess fills every place. It counts as a single guess, and it is not a wrong guess.

Where is my streak kept?

In this browser, on this device, along with the number of words you have solved. Clearing site data for Play Solo removes it. Nothing is sent to a server.
