Aces Up Solitaire

Aces Up deals one face-up card into each of four columns. The rest of the deck is the stock. Remove a top card when a higher card of the same suit is showing. An ace is highest, so it stays. Move a top card into an empty column to uncover the one beneath. Only the four aces should remain.

Rules and help

Remove every card except the four aces.

How to play

  • Layout. Four columns of one face-up card. The other forty-eight cards are the stock. Only the top card of a column moves.
  • Remove. Suit must match. The lower top card goes to the discard pile. An ace is higher than a king.
  • Empty column. Move one top card into an empty column. That uncovers the card under it. You build onto a card only by dealing.
  • Stock. Deal one card on each column from the left. You may deal while a removal is available. The stock is dealt once.
  • Result. You win with only the four aces left, even if cards remain in the stock. The deal ends when the stock is empty and no removal can be reached. Fewer cards left is better.
  • Controls. Tap a top card, or drag it onto the higher card or the discard pile. Drag a card into an empty column, or tap the card and then the column. Tap the stock to deal. Undo takes back the last action, including one that ended the deal.

Tips

  • Move a card into an empty column before you deal, or the next card fills it.
  • When two of a suit can go, remove the one that uncovers another.
  • An ace stays. Move it to free the cards under it.
  • One empty column uncovers one card. Use it where a removal is buried.

Playing on a phone or tablet

Tap a top card to remove it, or drag it onto the higher card of the same suit or onto the discard pile. To fill an empty column, drag a card there, or tap the card and then the column. The stock and the discard pile sit beside the columns, or under them when the screen is narrow.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Aces Up?
Four columns start with one face-up card each. Remove a top card when a higher card of the same suit is showing. Aces are highest. Move a top card into an empty column to uncover the card under it, and deal one new card onto each column from the stock.
How do you win Aces Up?
Leave only the four aces in the columns. Every other card has to be removed. An ace cannot be removed. You have won when those four aces are the only cards left in the columns, even if the stock still has cards. Not every deal can be won.
Can the stock be turned over again?
No. Each stock card is dealt once, one onto each column from the left. When the stock is empty and no more cards can be removed, the deal is over.
